Today I spent the day with a sweet friend.
She is fighting Breast Cancer
and today she was scheduled for one of her Chemo Treatments.
She has no family nearby, so each week one of her friends takes her.
She has been scheduled for 16 chemo treatments
and today was the 8th
so she is now half-way through.
She has been a friend of our family's for many, many years.
We first met at church, when our kids were still young and in school.
Our kids are now grown, and life separated us for a time,
but whenever we'd meet up, we would just pick up where we left off.
Do you have any friends like that?
This particular lady is very optimistic...always wearing a smile.
Today she was also wearing a wig, but I couldn't even tell.
She looked so beautiful and her hair looked so natural.
She told me she's as bald as they come underneath that wig but you couldn't tell.
When we arrived at the clinic, she checked in and we waited only a few moments.
Then they called her into the treatment room.
I was allowed to go with her.
There were beautiful quilts that lined the hallway leading to the treatment room.
When we got inside the treatment room they hooked her up to a machine.
First they cleaned her port (which was previously implanted to feed the chemo through)
and then they started to administer the chemo.
There were several chairs in this room
and they were all full of patients, fighting various stages of cancer.
I could tell that many of them were, in fact, bald.
Some had scarves on their heads and others wigs.
They brought books or laptops and were also busy occupying their time.
This is my sweet friend, Linda
The beautiful blanket that keeps her warm during her treatments
was made by one of her sons who lives out of state.
Isn't it beautiful?

My friend slept on and off during her treatment.
She said they give you something to make you very sleepy.
That's why they cannot drive themselves.
They even have to sign a form, that they would NOT be driving
and I had to sign the form, too,
that I was the designated driver for the day.
The time passed by quickly I thought, and certainly for my friend
since she slept some.
After a few hours, this session of chemo was all done.
I drove her home and we stopped off on the way to get something to eat.
Then I took her home where she would sleep the rest of the afternoon.
What a wonderful thing to devote todays blog to your friend and the journey she is on.
